Descending

Author: Candi Beck

Sauntering over the creaky threshold, I step out into the sun kissed air. I tug the shiny, metal doorknob and secure the lock into place with a click. It is time, again, to step out into the new day of opportunities waiting before me. Fluttering around in my mind are the same doldrum questions that come daily upon leaving my 2nd story apartment:

“Did I turn the stove off? Did I get my lesson plan book? Did I grab my phone? Do I have my lanyard and school I.D.?  Did I grab my lunch bag? Do I have my purse?”

The monotony of my morning routine is etched in my mind like deep ruts on an old country road; but somehow, I always second guess myself. As I check off the mental list, I twirl around whimsically and head across the way. Before my first foot leaves the floor, my eyes catch sight of what lays before me. The wooden planks leading to the stairwell are gone. 10 feet comes between me and the pathway to get to the ground. Just as quickly as I see the problem at hand; I start to see God’s handiwork. I don’t ask. I don’t start devising a way to get across that abyss. Before I can even process the situation, God is already providing for me. My eyes are growing wide. Every cell in my body is rejoicing and leaving a chill as evidence. Unfolding before me, an immaculate & white, solid & strong staircase is being constructed. I feast my eyes on it as each step meticulously climbs nearer to me, until reaching the place where my feet rest. My red-carpet moment has arrived. I know that these are my steps; ordained by my Heavenly Father. Confidently, I descend. I allow each step to fill me.

“Stronger.” Step. “Mighty” Step. “Powerful.” Step. “Elohim.” Step. “Abide.” Step. “Ordained.” Step.

Suddenly, I open my eyes. Warm and cozy in my bed, slightly hypnotized by the fan above me; I lie, still and solemn. I replay the events and mysteries in my mind a few times.

Read:

Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” God created. God creates. God will create. A man by the name of Paul, born of Tarsus, tells us, “God is the same yesterday, today and forever.” [Hebrews 13:8] We can trust that God is creating, today, just as He created in the beginning. We call Him, Elohim! In Hebrew, this literally means: strong, mighty powerful Creator. God makes a way, when there seems to be no way: He is a strong, mighty and powerful Creator, Elohim.

Isaiah 65:24 says, “I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers!” God is always a step ahead of us! Do not worry!

John 15:5 says, “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who abide in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines abide as: to remain stable or fixed in a state OR to continue in a place. Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, and Lance Bass: do these names ring a bell? They are all members of a once popular boy band named NSYNC. While NSYNC has come and gone, remaining IN SYNC with Jesus tops the charts forevermore!

Psalm 37:23 says, “The LORD ordains the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.” As we abide in the Lord, we step correctly. Is it not hard to see where to step in the darkness? Let God lead the way! After all, isn’t it He whom is the creator of light and light of the world? Elohim!

In my dream, God is speaking to me and to YOU. Just as that new staircase appeared with no effort of my own, even before I asked; God works to provide safe pathways for us when we abide in Him. He gives us steps. We can also rest assured knowing that the steps we take are all part of His plan. Loves, we must abide in the Lord Almighty!

Pray with me:

Father God, Elohim, our strong, mighty and powerful Creator; I praise you today! You are the Great Creator! I praise you for creating and devising ways to bring me closer to You, Lord Jesus! I praise you for making pathways before me! Even when I didn’t see a way, Jesus, you made a way. You are the great way maker! Your ways are much better than my ways, O God! I praise You for always taking my goals and blowing them out of the water- hitting them out of the park, Jesus! I praise you for going before me, making my path safe and fighting my battles for me. I praise You for setting before my feet the steps You have ordained for me each day. All I need to do is take ONE step right now! I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made! I was made in Your image, Elohim; therefore, I am a creator! Imago Dei, Lord, I was created in Your image. I pray that I create works that satisfy Your purpose. Father God, inspire me and all creatives in leading people to consider things deeply. Allow my creations to offer hope, meaning and clarity. In Jesus’ mighty name I pray,

Amen.

When is a time that God created a way for you in your life, when you really did see a way? Is there a time that He clearly answered a prayer before you even asked? While you are abiding in the Lord, what are some truths that you have learned about the nature of our great God? Are you a creative? How are you using your creativity to spur people into thinking deeply? Are you offering hope, meaning and clarity? I would love to hear from you and offer praises to our God for what He has done!

  1. I love this. I love knowing He devises a way for me when it seems there’s no way. And I love that He’s working on devising a way for me before I even realize I need it. And His way is good, strong, powerful. This visual helps me understand his character and increases my confidence in Him.
